Eating
Out in South Africa

With so many diverse climates and cultures in
one country, restaurants in South Africa cater for a wide
range of tastes. Food is unique, interesting and tasty -
from meat to fish to the freshest of fresh fruit and vegetables.
Meat eaters can indulge themselves with
tender steaks, succulent Karoo lamb and a variety of wild
game dishes. For non-meat eaters there is plenty to choose
from.
Seafood is fresh, particularly in the Western
Cape, where the cold Benguela current brings a veritable
feast of fish and shellfish to the table at many South African
restaurants. |
Indigenous African food also takes its place
in restaurants in South Africa, alongside traditional Cape
Malay dishes and the Indian curries of
KwaZulu-Natal. Don't forget the traditional South African braai,
which takes the barbecue to new heights.
Restaurants in South Africa are hard to choose between - there's Italian,
Greek, French, Thai, Japanese, Chinese, Mexican, Cajun, Fusion...
the list is endless!
Bear in mind that in South African restaurants portions tend to
be very generous! Both white and red South African wines are
superb - some better than others, some outstanding. And even the
very best are affordable. South African wines are awarded prizes
every year at international wine competitions.
When eating out, most restaurants in South Africa allow you to
bring your own wine for a small corkage charge.
