Horseback Safaris

For the adventurous, try our horseback safaris. One of our more popular trips, the five day Horse and Canoe Trail takes place in the Knysna forest.
We travel to Knysna either from Port Elizabeth or Cape Town, depending on which other trip you decide to opt for.
On the first day we begin our horseback safari by saddling up and ride straight into the Knysna forest wilderness of indigenous stinkwood, yellowwood and milkwood trees unchanged since the era of early man.

We ride through this fascinating landscape, always hoping for a glimpse of the last remaining members of the once enormous Knysna elephant herds. These animals were decimated by man throughout history, and today only one or two remain hidden in the forest depths. On horseback safaris, sightings seem to occur more often...maybe you'll be lucky!
Eventually we exchange our horses for canoes and paddle along the river until we reach an area of mysterious swamps and wetlands. Ancient trees reach up towards the sky in a luxurious high forest canopy. The forests themselves are established over beautiful rolling countryside.
Each night we set up camp at a new site where we relax and
cook our supper on the campfire before falling asleep
to the soothing sounds of the wilderness.
On the sixth day of our horseback safari, we will have the unique experience of riding on the Outeniqua Choo-Tjoe, the narrow-gauge steam train that runs from Knysna, winding through lakes and forests, over rivers and along cliff edges to George. From here we continue by road to Cape Town where our horeseback safari comes to an end.
